The driver of a pickup truck that was struck from behind and careened head-on into a tree last month has died, and Anne Arundel County police said Monday they will meet with prosecutors regarding possible criminal charges stemming from the crash.

Robert F. Burdette, 74, of Clinton died Sunday at Prince George’s Hospital Center. Burdette was driving a 1995 Ford Ranger south on Route 4 near Plummer Lane in Lothian on Oct. 6. About 2:30 a.m., it was struck from behind by a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Sean Kevin Fitzgibbon, 27, of Friendship, police said.

Burdette’s pickup went off the road and crashed into a tree. Police said at the time that they suspected speed and alcohol may have been factors in the accident.
